The Pink Moon - Crafting Inspiration for Warm Weather Ahead

The Pink Moon - Crafting Inspiration for Warm Weather Ahead

The Pink Moon is due on April 12, 2025. The full moon marks the shift to warm weather and for knitters and crocheters, the subtle shift to lightweight projects. And, like always, we’re back with the inspiration to make the most of the moon with our Lantern Moon handcrafted collection of knitting needles, crochet hooks and accessories.

The month of April is filled with color as spring blooms and blossoms take center stage in our yards, parks, and consciousness. As the first full Spring month takes hold, the ground warms up, plants and flowers poke through and new growth is to be found everywhere.  That may be one of the reasons it was given the nickname of “Pink Moon” - though green may have been a bit more accurate.

5 Knitting Gift Ideas For Holiday Season

Spring is also the time for lightweight clothing as temperatures turn a bit warmer, especially during the day. Nighttime can still be cool, so many like to play it safe and have a lightweight cover-up that can be popped over a cold shoulder.

Of course, we are talking about one of our favorite solutions: The Shawl.

Knitting and Crochet Shawl Patterns

Nothing beats its versatility. Not only does it warm the body by encasing the wearer in a cozy wrap, it also satisfies multiple needs by serving in the following ways: a lap blanket, a baby carrier, a cowl or a head covering. To top it all off, it can also be a thing of beauty when it is hand-knitted or crocheted. Look at this stunning example to see what we mean:

Cloud Nine Comfort

Wrap yourself in lightness and style this spring with a beautifully crafted triangle knitted shawl. Perfect for layering on breezy days, this versatile accessory adds elegance to any outfit. Terra, the fingering weight yarn is lightweight plus a beautiful blend of merino-polyamide. Paired with Lantern Moon’s handcrafted knitting needles, the process becomes as joyful as the final result. The smooth, polished wood and balanced design of the needles ensure a luxurious knitting experience from cast-on to bind-off. Embrace the season of renewal with a shawl that’s both functional and fashion-forward, stitched with love.

Field of Flowers

Crocheted with flower motifs, the shawl is ideal for spring and warmer weather. This one is in Pink – in honor of the Spring Moon plus spring is the season for growth, and nothing says growth quite like a rich shade of pinks and green. However, it would be stunning in any Symfonie yarn skein.

A Spring Break

Celebrate Spring and have a bit of fun with these crocheted amigurumi birds. Using a little worsted weight yarn, you can make a village of spring-time chicks. Made from worsted-weight yarn, these would be the ideal teaching project if you know someone who is itching to learn the technique.

These little guys are great for using up leftover worsted weight yarn or find the perfect color here with Symfonie Yarns, Bella. These are just 2 of the 60-plus colors available.

Here’s one more idea for springtime crafts – this one is super practical, as well. Given the high cost of eggs right now, we recommend you reconsider dying them and pick up a crochet hook. This free pattern from Claudia Lowman gives you color options that aren’t easily obtained when you dye real eggs. These cute examples use a fingering weight yarn. Each egg only calls for about 15-18 yards of yarn. Use a few colors from the rich choices available in the  Terra collection, and you and your friends will be able to make a yard full of spectacular  Easter eggs for a schoolyard celebration or your own backyards.

PS: If you are sharing your love of crochet by teaching, make sure to use the best tools and materials. Check out the Lantern Moon Collection.

Lantern Moon crochet hooks have the liquid silk finish that guarantees a smooth, snag free crochet experience. Consider this kit of hooks in the most popular sizes. The Radiance  Set of single-ended crochet hooks is beautiful and practical, featuring 6 popular US sizes G - L  (4 - 8 mm) and housed in an elegant Khadi silk case. It also makes a wonderful gift.

Mother’s Day Reminder

Spring also brings Mother’s Day, which is just around the corner on May 11th. While we will be back to tell you about the May moon before that, it doesn’t hurt to get ahead of the game. If any significant person in your world (including yourself) loves knitting, a kit might be the perfect choice.
